Dear partners, colleagues, fellow campaigners and interested parties,

ever since the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for interoperable and scalable data infrastructures within healthcare has become even more apparent. National and regional governments address these challenges by introducing open platforms, a novel paradigm to enable the data flow required to harness the full potential of big data in medicine.

To underline the importance of open platforms, and to provide examples of novel implementations to political stakeholders and the health IT community, we dedicate our this year’s HiGHmed Symposium to openEHR and FHIR, the underlying eHealth standards of the data environment of tomorrow.

Therefore, it is a great pleasure inviting you to the next

HiGHmed Symposium on October 14, 2021 with the title
Digitalization in the healthcare system: openEHR and FHIR – friends or foes?

This event will bring together experienced experts in the field of medical informatics and offer an opportunity to exchange information with international colleagues. The aim of this symposium is to promote a complementary view of openEHR and FHIR as well as to demonstrate the synergies of both standards.

The event will take place all day in Berlin and will be broadcast virtually in parallel.

We look forward welcoming you to our symposium – virtually or personally on site.

Kind regards,

Prof. Dr. Roland Eils (Chairman of the Management Board HiGHmed e.V.)

Organizer HiGHmed e.V.

HiGHmed e.V. was founded within the HiGHmed project as an independent legal association and is supported by all clinical locations of the HiGHmed consortium. The association primarily assumes tasks such as establishing strategic cooperations with business, industry and scientific organisations, providing central services for the consortium and developing concepts for the extension of HiGHmed's existing research focus.

One core task of HiGHmed is to build data integration centers that will demonstrate how data, information and knowledge from health care, clinical and biomedical research can be linked across sites. Since HiGHmed relies on open information infrastructures, and interoperable solutions for efficient data exchange between institutions, HiGHmed aims to support a public discussion and dissemination of the new developments in these areas.

The HiGHmed Symposium will take place at

Kaiserin-Friedrich-Haus Berlin

More information about the building, the foundation and the auditorium can be found here.
